We’ll start the day with a short drive to Kaindy Lake (Kazakhstan’s Kolsai Lakes National Park). Situated among magnificent pine forest at an altitude of 2000m, it’s renowned for it’s unique appearance. An earthquake triggered a landslide that led to the flooding of a forest. Submerged trees now rise eerily above the water’s surface, creating a stunning and surreal landscape. We’ll have our lunch here before heading to Kolsai Lakes. The lakes consist of 3 alpine lakes boasting emerald waters surrounded by the snowcapped TianShan Mountains. We’ll take short hikes to the lakes before heading back to Saty Village for the night.

Common Questions
-
Who is this trip suitable for?
If you’re adventurous, open-minded, and excited to immerse in a new culture, this is the trip for you! Also if,
You want to visit Central Asia without having to plan
You have an open heart to meet people from different walks of life and go with the flow
You want to nomadic life while still enjoying the basic comforts (ahem toilets and showers)
This trip is NOT for you if you
You are extremely risk-averse – We do our best to assess the risk and only work with vendors with years of experience and a good track record. However, as the tour involves adventurous outdoor activities, we are at the mercy of the weather, the terrain, and unpredictable accidents. If this scares you, this might not be the right trip for you.
You avoid physical activity – If a short flight of stairs leaves you breathless, you might struggle with the hikes and active nature of this trip. A basic level of fitness is required to fully enjoy the experience.
You struggle with unpredictability – Plans may shift due to weather or local conditions. If last-minute changes stress you out, this trip may be frustrating for you.
You have a ‘customer is always right’ mindset – We do our best to provide an amazing experience, but nature and logistics don’t always cooperate. The priority of our local guides is safety, and our team will not hesitate to take anyone out of the tour if the need arises.
-
We’ll fly AirAsia to Almaty Day 1. The trip ends at Bishkek, so you have two options: to fly back to SG from Bishkek (Emirates is one option), or to fly to Almaty from Bishkek (about $170) and then fly back via the return flight. You will reach SG on the night of Day 11. We will let you know the exact flights upon sign up 🙂
Please do not book your flights until we have confirmed that the trip has hit the minimum number of participants and is a confirmed departure.

However please note that the flight transfers to the hotels will not be included if you do not take the recommended flights.

This particular expedition is less physically demanding compared to our other expeditions! You don’t have to be fit-fit, but we’ll be doing a few hours of walking a day, a day hike, and will spend one day on horseback.

In the mountains, we’ll be hosted in guesthouses and yurt camps run by the locals. In the yurts, you’ll be sleeping on beds with blankets, and sharing it with 3-5 other people of the same gender. It’s not going to be luxurious glamping, but we’ll get to experience the nomadic culture and way of life!
There will be modern toilets at all the yurt camps, guesthouses, and hotels. Hot showers are available at the guesthouses. In the yurts, it’ll depend on each yurt camp, but most have a traditionally heated shower (heated with fire!), and one of them has a modern shower!
In the cities, it will be a mix of 3-4 star hotels with twin sharing rooms.
